INLOVE with ‘Superman & Lois’

“Superman & Lois” finally makes its return to The CW on April 26. Episode 10 of Season 2 (Bizarros in a Bizarre World) is the first one back after nearly a month-long hiatus. So, how will Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) navigate this bizarre world he has crossed into? Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait just a little longer to find out. But, we may have something to hold you over in the meantime. INLOVE Magazine recently got to spend an afternoon with the cast during this year’s PaleyFest, and we came away with some fun facts fans will love.

Todd Helbing (creator, showrunner, and executive producer), Tyler Hoechlin (Clark Kent/Superman), Elizabeth ‘Bitsie’ Tulloch (Lois Lane), Emmanuelle Chriqui (Lana Cushing), Dylan Walsh (General Sam Lane), Alex Garfin (Jordan Kent), Erik Valdez (Kyle Cushing), Inde Navarrette (Sarah Cushing), Wolé Parks (John Henry Irons/Steel), Tayler Buck (Natalie Irons), and Sofia Hasmik (Chrissy Beppo) were all on hand during the April 3 event at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

We spoke with them and found out what they love most about their characters, who their favorite villains are, what superpowers they would want in real life, and which characters from the Arrowverse they’d like to see crossover into “Superman & Lois.”

Wolé Parks [John Henry Irons/Steel]

What do you love most about playing your character?
I love the depth. You know, I tend to be a pretty optimistic guy, which is great, but I’m also an actor who doesn’t want to play myself…What I love is the journey they’ve actually let the character go on. He went through such grief and turmoil in Season 1 and kind of came to acceptance by the end of Season 1, which I love. Then his daughter shows up, so now he gets to embrace that and enjoy his family now and be a single dad, which is new. So he’s going through a lot of journeys. He started off kind of angry in the beginning, just a little bit, and now he’s in a different place, which is nice.

If you could have any superpower in real life, what would it be?
Telekinesis because I’m lazy [laughs]. I would love to be able to move stuff with my mind like Jean Grey… Yeah, I would love to do that. Like the remote’s over there. Zzzzz. Bring it over here… It’s a practical superpower, I think.

Who is your favorite villain?
My favorite villain is Mark Hamill’s Joker in “Batman: The Animated Series.” Because I grew up with him, and it’s part of my childhood. The way he played him, the laughing, the voice, he’s probably my favorite of all time.

Inde Navarrette [Sarah Cushing]

What do you love most about being a part of this show?
I’d have to say how genuine everyone is. I think Todd Helbing really made a point to get people who have [good] reputations that would just bring love and light. I think that has really translated on screen and on the set. We’re just here for each other, and how can you not be [during] COVID? We need that.

If you could have any superpower in real life, what would it be?
I would fly. I would fly everywhere. I wouldn’t want to be invisible, and I wouldn’t want to hear people’s thoughts. I would want to fly. Yeah.

Who is your favorite villain?
Probably Cruella. She’s doing pretty good. She’s got fashion down, and she has a bunch of dogs.

If you could choose any character from the Arrowverse to crossover into “Superman & Lois,” who would it be?
Barry Allen. I think, as of right now, it would be The Flash. I think The Flash and Superman, we got that once. But I’d like to selfishly experience that again because I used to watch it in middle school. So, I kind of want to see it all go down and be a part of it. The little kid in me will get so excited.

Alex Garfin [Jordan Kent]

What do you love most about playing your character?
I love being able to play a realistic teenager. I love how awkward I get to be. I mean, it’s so painful to watch some of the stuff with him and Sarah in the first season because it really does feel like two 14-year-olds talking to each other, and they don’t really know how to talk to each other yet. Big credit to Lee Toland Krieger, who really set that vibe, and obviously Todd Helbing and all the writers who were able to write that and give it bones. It’s really been fun.

If you could have any superpower in real life, what would it be?
It would be classic to say flight but I think super smell would be interesting because no one would see it coming, right? All of a sudden, the scientist would be wondering how I’m smelling things on Venus. And I’ll be like, “[sniffs] That atmosphere is composed of 78 percent carbon dioxide.” I would contribute to science like no one else.

Who is your favorite villain?
I think my favorite villain might have just been Steel/John Henry Irons. I mean, he was a villain at first; we didn’t understand him, and then he comes in, and all of a sudden, Wolé makes me cry every episode. I swear. He’s the nicest guy on the planet, the most charismatic dude. I admire that guy so much.

If you could choose any character from the Arrowverse to crossover into “Superman & Lois,” who would it be?
I guess he’s not in the Arrowverse, but if DC counts, I think Jordan Kent can learn a lot from Bruce Wayne. Not even Batman, but Bruce Wayne himself because they both have this hero’s journey that they go through, these trials and tribulations. Jordan, a lot of times, lets circumstances dominate him. We see in episode nine he all of a sudden starts to dominate his circumstances when his father goes away. Bruce Wayne was someone who lost his parents very early on, and he really controlled his own situation and decided to use it for good. I think the two of them having a conversation would be very mutually beneficial.

Sofia Hasmik [Chrissy Beppo]

What do you love most about playing your character?
I just love Chrissy so much. She says what’s on her mind. She doesn’t back down. She’s really finding herself, and I find myself trying to be a little bit more like her in my day-to-day. I love that girl. I love her so much.

If you could have any superpower in real life, what would it be?
I kind of would love to be invisible sometimes. Like, just even in my house when people are trying to find me, I go, “No,” and then just sort of exist. When life happens or you’ve got to take the trash out, and someone’s looking for you, you’re like. “No, I’m not here right now.”

Who is your favorite villain?
Adam Rayner [Morgan Edge/Tal-Rho] gave us a sick villain last season. He’s just so relatable in a weird way.

If you could choose any character from the Arrowverse to crossover into “Superman & Lois,” who would it be?
Bring them all. All are welcome.

Tayler Buck [Natalie Irons]

What do you love most about playing your character?
I love how strong-willed and determined she is. She’s extremely independent and super smart. I’m jealous of her [laughs]. I want to be that smart and innovative.

If you could have any superpower in real life, what would it be?
Invisibility. For sure. I’ve thought about this so much, especially when I was in high school. I was like If I could turn invisible right now and go behind my teacher’s desk and get those test answers. I would never have to do a single ounce of work again…. Today, I would probably sneak into VIP places. That’d be great.

Who is your favorite villain?
I actually really like Lex Luthor. He’s a villain, and he’s bald. That’s pretty cool.

If you could choose any character from the Arrowverse to crossover into “Superman & Lois,” who would it be?
Maybe The Flash, honestly. I started watching it after I got this job, and I thought it was so cool. I’d love to meet them.

As far as the end of Season 2 goes, Tayler Buck tells INLOVE Magazine that what’s coming up is “intense.” We’ll all find out what that means soon enough. An all-new episode of “Superman & Lois” airs tonight on The CW at 8/7c.
